In the original "Big Trouble in Little China" Jack Burton is an All-American trucker who gets dragged into a centuries-old mystical battle in San Francisco’s Chinatown
"Big Trouble in Little China" is my favorite John Carpenter movie (even though most fans would point to "The Thing" as his best). It has a wild combination of 80's action, comedy, and Chinese mysticism fantasy. There's even a character there that looks like it's the basis for creating the visual look of Mortal Kombat's Raiden character.
If done right, it's a project that could promise big box office success. But the unique reason why Dwayne Johnson might be perfect for this role is that it could provide a comedic alternative from his usual action star image. You see, the hero/anti-hero character of Jack Burton is that he thinks he's a man of action; he jumps into a fight without question... but he sucks at it. And most of the time, it's pure luck that lets him win.
Choosing a director will be very tricky; the original was weird and fun and willing to have that perfect blend of fantasy, action, and comedic elements. Let's just hope that they find a perfect director that could effectively emulate the original.
