Disney has also been trying to develop a live-action adaptation of "Mulan" for years now, but recently that development has been moving along as Disney has ordered a script from writing duo Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek with Chris Bender and J.C. Spink attached to produce. [hit the jump to continue]
"Mulan" tells the story of the titular young woman, whose elderly father is ordered to return to military duty when a vast and strong Mongol army invades their Chinese homeland. The spirited gal chooses to instead impersonate a man and take her father’s place in the army – an act for which she could be executed, should she be discovered. Help and a potential love interest arrives in the form of General Li, who risks his own life to protect Mulan and prevent her from being exposed.
"Mulan" does have the capacity to be big, especially that it can attract the female demographic and the male demographic as well, because of the action and adventurous aspect of the story; plus the big possibility that this will inject some heavy martial arts aspect in the movie. No release date or casting has been announced for the in-development project.
