James Wan will direct Aquaman and Robotech

Insidious and The Conjuring director James Wan just recently proved that he could be a versatile filmmaker with the success of "Furious 7" which he directed. Now, he's taking on two gigantic genre projects; he will be directing the DC superhero movie "Aquaman" and he will also be directing the live-action adaptation of the popular anime "Robotech." James Wan Returns to Horror with The Conjuring 2; Will He be Directing a DC Movie as well?

Nobody can deny how last year's The Conjuring was such a horror masterpiece. Its director James Wan has always been best known as one of the more recent masters of horror, having pioneered the Saw franchise and also directed such hits as Insidious. Recently, Wan has shifted to the action genre, as he is directing the upcoming Fast & Furious 7. Now, James Wan has announced that he is returning to horror, with the sequel of The Conjuring. The Conjuring Spin-off "Annabelle" set for October

Many of us might have thought that that freaky doll from all of the posters for the horror masterpiece "The Conjuring" is the main monster of the movie. Well, now that idea is coming true with a spin-off horror movie featuring that doll, entitled "Annabelle". The film is directed by John R. Leonetti (who served as a DP on The Conjuring and should be able to recreate that film’s style) and written by Gary Dauberman (the upcoming Crawlspace from the same studios). James Wan is producing alongside Peter Safran. The film stars the somewhat ironically named Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders), Ward Horton, and Alfre Woodard. "Annabelle" is set for official international release this October 3, 2014. No specific release date for the Philippines has been named yet.

"Annabelle" is a stand-alone film that will be set in the same universe as "The Conjuring" but it is not the official sequel. "The Conjuring 2" will be a separate movie, and is set for release October 23, 2015.

Fast & Furious 7 Cast Rundown; plus, Our Fast & Furious Continuity Guide

The casting line-up for FAST & FURIOUS 7 is starting to look like The Expendables, and not only because Jason Statham is joining the cast, but because it's starting to be occupied by big names (we'll get to that a little later in the article). Actually, Lucas Black is not a big name, but he was the main protagonist in The "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" which introduced Justin Lin on the director's chair of the franchise and successfully took it and and take off to evolve into this massively popular action movie franchise (with "Fast & Furious", "Fast Five", and "Furious 6"). Now, Black is back to reprise his role Sean Boswell from 'Tokyo Drift', joining Dominic Toretto and his team. Along with Jason Statham, the new cast include Djimon Honsou (best known for his roles in "Gladiator"and "Amistad"),  popular Indian and Bollywood film actress and model Deepika Padukone, female mixed martial artist and UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, English actress Nathalie Emmanuel (best known as Khaleesi's interpreter in Game of Thrones) and Thai martial arts superstar Tony Jaa, best known as the star of the Ong Bak movies. There's a really strong rumor that Kurt Russel is also included in the cast, but because it is not yet officially confirmed, my best bet is that it's going to be a small role, or perhaps another teaser appearance for the next movie (just like Statham at the end of part 6). FAST & FURIOUS 7 is scheduled for a July 2014 release. [hit the jump to continue, and check out our Fast & Furious continuity guide]

Conjuring a Box Office Success

THE CONJURING opened this week in Philippine cinemas, and it seems that it is garnering such hype, promising strong numbers at the box office. I watched the movie on its opening day, this Wednesday; at a theater that was packed with audiences, so much so that we did not get to sit at our usual favorite spot. I was actually impressed as to how Warner Brothers Philippines seem to have played their cards with the local release of this movie. The Conjuring opened in US theaters last week of July. And from that time, with its blitzkrieg success at the US box office, there had already been the buzz and the hype that has been created. But not everybody here in the Philippines would usually care about US box office hype, or film analysis coming from American write-ups. [hit the jump to read the rest of the article]

Justin Lin to leave the Fast and Furious series after Fast 6; James Wan to continue franchise

The Fast & Furious movies have been getting bigger and better. I would probably put all the thanks to Justin Lin. He made the third movie in this franchise such an interesting unique sequel (semi prequel). He made the Fourth one a hit. And then he made Fast Five phenomenal. Now, however, it seems that Fast 6 will be his last movie in the series, and the studios have chosen James Wan (of the Saw movies) to take his place. [click below to read the rest of the article]
