For some unpleasant news, "Gambit" has lost it's director Rupert Wyatt. It's unfortunate that this film just can't seem to catch a break from the negative vibes. Earlier this year, it was reported that the film's main star had walked away from the project, prompting everyone to think that the movie would never happen. Eventually that turned out to be just rumor, but now it has lost it's director, the person who would've led the project. [hit the jump to continue]
Rupert Wyatt had a statement regarding his departure from Fox and with "Gambit":
"I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox but, regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project. I thank them for the opportunity and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film."
Regardless of that, Fox maintains that the film is still moving forward, and will begin in early 2016. Fox should have a new director shortly.
Now several questions will have to be raised regarding the future of this project, such as who will now take the reins and lead everything? Even further than that, is anyone actually interested in directing a Gambit movie? And this may come out of left field, but will the film's main star stick with the project surrounding all of these negative developments? Let's just hope that all these negative buzz does not lead to a revelation that this project will meet the same fate as "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"
