Top Gun Sequel Being Developed

After several decades, it looks like the popular 80's iconic pop movie "Top Gun" will indeed be having a sequel after all. The project is still under a long overdue development phase, but sources say that "Top Gun 2" will have a a storyline that highlights the relevance of old fashioned pilots in a war environment loaded with high-tech drones. Tom Cruise will return as Maverick, perhaps we can expect the rest of the other cast to catch up to the project if it nears the greenlight. [hit the jump to continue]

A draft for a script was penned by Peter Craig a couple of years ago, but the project got stalled when Tony Scott, who directed the first movie, passed away. The Jungle Book scribe, Justin Marks is currently in negotiations to pen the script for Top Gun 2. Skydance’s David Ellison on board to produce with Dana Goldberg stepping in as an executive producer. Plans for "Top Gun 2" has also been fast-tracked now that Jerry Bruckheimer’s moved from Disney to Paramount. 

Undeniably, "Top Gun" has been one of the most iconic 80's movies. And although I think that the storyline of the first was not that impressive, it looks like the developers of the sequel do have a good storyline idea on their heads, reason enough to dig up a rusty old movie like "Top Gun" and make a sequel out of it.
