Mel Gibson and "Braveheart" writer Randall Wallace are working on a sequel to his 2004 film, "The PASSION OF THE CHRIST", which will chronicle Jesus' resurrection. [hit the jump to continue]
"I always wanted to tell this story," Wallace told THR. "THE PASSION is the beginning and there's a lot more story to tell."
It's no surprise that the faith-based community responded to the idea of a sequel positively, and according to THR, that community was instrumental in getting Gibson interested in taking the project on.
The evangelical community considers THE PASSION the biggest movie ever out of Hollywood, and they kept telling us that they think a sequel will be even bigger."
As of this writing, they no studio backer, but that's likely to fall in line as soon as the script is finished. However, given the recent success of faith-based films (including Wallace's own HEAVEN IS FOR REAL), this one certainly seems like a shoo-in, and so long as both Gibson and Wallace stay attached to the film, there's no reason to think the movie won't turn out great.
