There is so much anticipation for "Avengers; Age of Ultron" which comes out this week. But while there are others who have the geek senses to keep them on-track with the goings-on in the Marvel universe, understandably, there are also others who might feel a bit confused of how the four or five movies into Marvel's "Phase Two" are consistently leading up to "Avengers: Age of Ultron". So here it goes; our quick review of the Marvel Phase Two Timeline... [hit the jump to continue]
After the events of the Battle of New York which occurred in the first Avengers movie, everybody went back to their own lives. The world has been rebuilding and picking itself up from what could have been an apocalyptic alien invasion. Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. has been getting back to their own affairs, with Captain America, Hawkeye, and Black Widow as their aces, now part of the Avengers. Bruce Banner (the Hulk) and Tony Stark (Iron Man) had also gone back to their own lives. Loki, who surrendered after the battle, surrendered to Thor who brought him back to Asgard to stand trial and punishment. Thor also brings with him the retrieved Tesseract which was used to open the portal for the alien invaders to go through our world. Meanwhile, out across the farthest reaches of space, the aliens who had attempted to invade Earth discuss their next move. We find out that the leader of this plot is the character named Thanos (who is known in the comics as a war-hungry and blood thirsty demi-god)

A string of bombings by a terrorist known only as the Mandarin has left intelligence agencies bewildered by a lack of forensic evidence. Iron Man eventually faces him and it is revealed that the Mandarin really is scientist and industrialist Aldrich Killian. Iron Man battles and defeats Killian. After the battle, Stark orders J.A.R.V.I.S. to remotely destroy each Iron Man suit as a sign of his devotion to his girlfriend Pepper Potts who nearly got killed in the battle.

On Asgard, Loki was imprisoned. But meanwhile, Malekith and the Dark Elves, who were ancient enemies of the Asgardians have returned from a silent slumber and attacked Asgard. Thor's mother Frigga is killed in the battle. Loki and Thor join forces to avenge their mother's death. They learn that Malekith plans to destroy the universe and restore the Dark Elves to dominance by unleashing a weapon known as the Aether. Thor eventually defeats Malekith.
Thor's allies Volstagg and Sif visit the Collector and entrust the Aether to his care, commenting that, with the Tesseract already in Asgard, having two Infinity Stones so close together would be dangerous. As they leave, the Collector remarks, "One down, five to go."

Back on Earth, the espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D. is going through its own chaotic war when it was revealed that the terrorist group known as Hydra has secretly operated within its ranks, sowing global chaos with the goal that humanity would willingly surrender its freedom in exchange for security. This revolution led to the agency's fall. While Nick Fury, Captain America, Black Widow, and their new ally The Falcon had successfully stopped Hydra from causing a nationwide massacre, things have never gone back to being the same. Nick Fury himself has walked away from being identified as part of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Elsewhere, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, at a Hydra lab, proclaims that the "age of miracles" has begun as scientists examine an energy-filled scepter (Loki's scepter) and two prisoners: one with superhuman speed (Quicksilver), the other with telekinetic powers (Scarlet Witch).

Agent Coulson, who we thought was dead in the first Avengers movie, was alive after all. But his resurrection was due to a horrific alien experimentation which members of S.H.I.E.L.D. had a hand on. When S.H.I.E.L.D. fell, he was able to salvage his own team and has been attempting to continue as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. They have been in constant battle with the forces of Hydra which was bent on unearthing more alien secrets to use as potential weapons. Their battles had recently led them to know of the existence of what is known as Inhumans; beings who are part-alien, part-human.

Meanwhile deep in the farthest regions of alien space, a group of extraterrestrial misfits known as The Guardians of the Galaxy are facing off against a violent fanatic known as Ronan the Accuser who intends to use an Orb to annihilate the planet Xandar and its residents, despite the disapproval of his ally Thanos. The Collector (who met up with Thor's allies Volstagg and Sif not long ago) had revealed that the Orb is really an Infinity Stone, an item of immeasurable power that destroys all but the most powerful beings who wield it. Suddenly, The Collector's tormented assistant grabs the Stone, triggering an explosion that engulfs The Collector's archive.
The Guardians battle and defeat Ronan, and in the aftermath of the battle, they give the Stone to the Nova Corps, an intergalactic police force that swear to enforce peace.

Let's recap the most obvious relevant points; S.H.I.E.L.D. has pretty much become inactive, but Hydra is still secretly active as it is led by Baron Strucker, and has tapped two super-powered beings (Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch), Tony Stark on the other hand, had boasted that he has destroyed all of his Iron Man suit, with J.A.R.V.I.S.'s help... did he construct new ones? Or did he lie? Meanwhile, something is brewing elsewhere in another galaxy, and it has something to do with the gathering of Infinity Stones.
We'll surely have the continued answers this week as "Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens today.
