Will "Fifty Shades of Grey" Get Cuts on Philippine Release?

For "Fifty Shades of Grey" fans in the Philippines, we have Good News and Bad News. Good News; the movie is now showing in Philippine theaters. All the rumors that the film was going to be banned for Philippine screening has now been shot down. Another good news is that there will be No Cuts. The Bad News: there will be blurs and blackened "screen block" portions that will censor some parts of the movie. In addition, SM Cinemas will also not be screening the movie. This is in line with their policy of not showing Rated R movies. [hit the jump to continue]

"Fifty Shades of Grey" has been given the R-18 rating, according to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). As reported by Rappler, columbia Pictures already introduced some measures of self-regulation into the film prior to review. To address the sensitivities with regard to the sex scenes in the movie, "there is also the requirement to flash a ten-second disclaimer and notice at the start of every showing"said Toto Villareal, chairman of the MTRCB.

Here's part of the disclaimer:
"This movie was classified as is and in its entirety with noticeable BLURS and SCREEN BLOCKS introduced by the film producer prior to its submission for review."
The disclaimer also goes on to say this: "The public is advised of some scenes of nudity, strong and/or sexual language, and sexual aberrational behavior with elements of bondage, dominance, sadism and masochism."

"Fifty Shades of Grey" is the film adaptation of the book written by E.L. James, about a simple-minded girl who falls in love with a handsome young millionaire who introduces her to the world of sexual bondage and physical abuse. It is set for release in the US on February 14, 2015, while the film opens in the Philippines Feburary 11, 2015. Except for SM Cinema which will not be showing Fifty Shades of Grey in its cinemas as it follows its traditional rule of not exhibiting R18 movies.
