Tikoy Aguiluz's Controversial Film "Tragic Theater"

In February 1999, a group of spirit communicators attempted to exorcise the then-abandoned Manila Film Center of ghosts. These supernatural beings were believed to be those of the victims from a fatal accident during its hasty construction. Unknown to them, something had long ago taken sanctuary inside the building feeding on the anger and misery of the victims' souls. They learned this secret too late and walked into a horrifying encounter. "Tragic Theater" is based on a book of the same title by G. M. Coronel who also wrote "Tomb Keeper". "Tragic Theater" is directed by Tikoy Aguiluz, and stars Andi Eigenmann, Christopher de Leon, and John Estrada. It is set to be shown this week, specifically opening on January 8, 2015.

The film struck controversy last month when its  trailer had received the X rating from the MTRCB twice because it was “too scary”, effectively ruling it unfit for public exhibition — at least, on TV and cinema screens. “I want to upload my version of the trailer on YouTube and social media so the people can judge for themselves. I don’t see anything wrong with my version. Horror film ito kaya dapat scary, hindi ba?,” Aguiluz stated in an interview with InterAksyon. Aguiluz eventually conceded and said that this matter was up to the producer, Viva Films, which in fact published the uncut trailer on its YouTube channel.

Another controversy which haunts the film was the incident which was reported way back in October occured, wherein one of the film’s stars, Andi Eigenmann, had “a creepy accident” during the filming of a key scene.
Andi Eigenmann fell from her harness that was hoisted about 15 feet up in the air. It happened right after she spewed a particularly fiery piece of dialogue in Latin as her character was supposedly under the possession of an evil spirit. She was immediately rushed to the hospital. Miraculously, she did not sustain any injuries and was discharged right away,” [source: The Tragic Theater facebook page and/or Eric Cabahug's facebook page]
