Mad Max Fury Road
This
is the fourth film of writer-director George Miller's Mad Max
franchise. While the first three Mad Max movies starred Mel Gibson as
the titular character, Fury Road marks the revival of the franchise and
paves the way for actor Tom Hardy to play the title role, "Mad" Max
Rockatansky. The film also stars Nicolas Hoult and Charlize Theron.
Set
in a post-apocalyptic world caused by a series of catastrophic
worldwide calamities that resulted in the downfall of civilization, a
former cop named Max, meets Furiosa, a woman attempting to cross an
immense desert with her companions. They are on the run from the
tyrannical Fascist leader, King Immortan Joe and his bloodthirsty
military force, the War Boys, who rule over a totalitarian desert
kingdom called the Wasteland.
SNAP IMPRESSION: Mad Max is one of
the wildest and most hardcore action franchises with a unique visual
style and kick-ass appeal. Hell yes, I have high hopes for this.
Maggie
This
thriller-zombie drama film directed by Henry Hobson and written by John
Scott, stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Abigail Breslin and Joely
Richardson. The film is a positively surprising dramatic departure for
Schwarzenegger, who is more known for his action hero roles.
The
story tells about a teenage girl in the Midwest who becomes infected by
an outbreak of a disease that slowly turns the infected into
cannibalistic zombies. During her transformation, her loving father
stays by her side.
SNAP IMPRESSION: Schwarzenegger deserves the
attention if he decides to quietly move into the ranks of serious drama,
this could serve as a fitting venue for it. I'm positive about this
movie.
M (Mother's Maiden Name)
The film,
written and directed by Zig Dulay and stars Zsa Zsa Padilla, is best
described as a mixture of comedy, drama, and an eye-opener that offers
an insightful commentary on the disparity of the medical treatments
available in the Philippines where there is a deep chasm between the
rich and the poor. [currently being screened at the FDCP Cinematheque]
SNAP IMPRESSION: Coming from the screenwriter of "Ekstra" I trust this one's a winner if you're looking for really good drama
Pitch Perfect 2
The sequel to the popular and successful musical comedy film"Pitch Perfect"
which
was loosely adapted from Mickey Rapkin's non-fiction book, titled
"Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory". Part 2 is
directed by Elizabeth Banks and written by Kay Cannon and stars an
ensemble cast led by previous Bellas Anna Kendrick (Beca), Rebel Wilson
(Fat Amy), Brittany Snow (Chloe), Ester Dean (Cynthia-Rose), Hana Mae
Lee (Lilly), and Alexis Knapp (Stacie).
Following an
incident involving Fat Amy and a wardrobe malfunction at the Lincoln
Center, the Barden Bellas are suspended from the circuit of A Capella
performing. In order to regain their status, the Bellas enter the
international competition, a colossal task seeing as how no American
team has ever won.
SNAP IMPRESSION: The first one was fun and
really good. I trust this one would be fine, if youre among those who
loved the first.
It Follows
This
highly-praised supernatural horror film written and directed by David
Robert Mitchell, and starring Maika Monroe, follows a girl pursued by a
supernatural entity after a sexual encounter. She finds herself plagued
by strange visions and the inescapable sense that someone or something,
is following her. Faced with this burden, Jay and her friends must find a
way to escape the horrors that seem to be only a few steps behind.
SNAP
IMPRESSION: It's getting high praises in the US. This looks like
something new and refreshing in the genre of horror. Maybe I'll make
time for this.
Para Sa Hopeless Romantic
A
student writer struggles to find a happy ending for her romantic story
when her own real life romance falls apart. This teen romance movie is
directed by Andoy Ranay and stars Nadine Lustre, James Reid, Julia
Barretto
SNAP IMPRESSION: I trust this one has its solid following. It is what it is: Para sa Hopeless Teen Romance Fanatic
The Last: Naruto the Movie
Off
the popular Naruto anime and manga series, "The Last: Naruto the Movie"
is the tenth overall Naruto film and the seventh Naruto Shippuden film,
and also the first entry in the Start of a New Era Project, and the
first film to be an official part of the canon Naruto storyline and is
set between the last two chapters of the original manga series.
SNAP IMPRESSION: Para sa Hopeless Naruto Fanatic
Lost River
Written,
produced, and directed by Ryan Gosling, in his directorial debut, "Lost
River" is a dark fairy tale about love, family and the fight for
survival in the face of danger. In the virtually abandoned city of Lost
River, Billy (Christina Hendricks), a single mother of two, is led into a
macabre underworld in her quest to save her childhood home and hold her
family together. Her teenage son Bones (Iain De Casestecker) discovers a
mystery about the origins of Lost River that triggers his curiosity and
sets into motion an unexpected journey that will test his limits and
the limits of those he loves.
SNAP IMPRESSION: Although I am
curious to gauge Ryan Gosling's directorial abilities, I cant help but
notice the mixed reviews that has been haunting it. I'll put this one on hold. [RETURN TO MAIN PAGE]
