Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead director Michelle MacLaren Helms the Wonder Woman Movie

Michelle MacLaren who is well known for directing episodes of “Breaking Bad”, “The Walking Dead” and "Game of Thrones" (probably three of the greatest series that hit TV recently) has been picked to both develop and direct the "Wonder Woman" solo film with Charles Roven and Zack and Deborah Snyder producing. Gal Gadot is already set to play Wonder Woman, who will also be making her first screen appearance in 2016 with "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". Wonder Woman herself may be expected to make additional appearances in other DC cinematic universe movies, and most especially, a major role in "Justice League Part One" which is expected to hit theaters November 10, 2017. "Wonder Woman" is targeted for a June 23, 2017 release date. [hit the jump to continue]

Maclaren's track record is actually quite impressive, and her move to full length films has long been overdue. Her track record include episodes of “Game of Thrones,” “The Leftovers” and the upcoming “Breaking Bad” spinoff “Better Call Saul.” She’s also well-known for serving as co-executive producer on the final two seasons of FOX’s “The X-Files.”

MacLaren was actually one of WB's top choices to take the helm from the beginning, and has met with the studio for as far back as August for the project.  Warner Bros. also met with Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) and Lesli Linka Glatter—another excellent TV director whose work includes Homeland—but after exploring other options, the studio then came back to MacLaren, whose TV resume proves she’s more than ready to handle her own feature.

According to inside sources, "Wonder Woman" is being targeted for development as a trilogy that sets up early origins of the female superhero. The first film is said to be set in the 1920s, revealing Themyscira’s first encounter with the outside world and Wonder Woman’s own experiences with an America that still had a lot to learn about equal rights. Then, its sequel would take place in the 1940s and will be set against the backdrop of World War II. A third film, then, would finally bring Wonder Woman to the present-day setting.
