Benedict Cumberbatch is Marvel's Doctor Strange

It's official; Benedict Cumberbatch is Marvel's Doctor Strange. Yeah other sources and sites have been reporting it as a done deal already, but in truth, Cumberbatch was still in talks when those reports came out, and now, the "officially confirmed" part just came right now. It's been no secret that the title series Doctor Strange will be part of Marvel's Phase three which begins with Ant-Man on 2015. Just days ago, Cumberbatch was in final negotiations with Marvel to play the title character, now the deal has been finalized, and he will soon be playing Marvel Cinematic Universe's sorcerer supreme. Over the months, there were several actors who were rumored to play the role, the list included Tom Hardy, Ethan Hawke, and Jared Leto. Joaquin Phoenix came close to getting the role, but negotiations with Marvel melted down. We actually hoped that the role went to lesser-known but perfectly-fit actors such as like Aiden Gillen or Pedro Pascal (both from Game of Thrones).

Doctor Strange is about an arrogant surgeon who had his hands paralyzed after a car accident. In desperation for a cure, he travels to the Himalayas where his life was transformed when his destiny led him to become a master of mystic arts; the sorcerer supreme.

Benedict Cumberbatch certainly has the acting chops, and has all the awards to prove that he would be perfect for the role. Yes, this is definitely good news.Doctor Strange is being directed by Scott Derrickson.

Marvel's Phase three will kick off right after Avengers: Age of Ultron; Ant-Man is the first film out of the gate in July 2015 followed by Captain America 3 in May 2016, we then have the Doctor Strange movie on July 8, 2016.
