SPAWN Reboot will be a Horror Movie

Todd McFarlane’s comic creation SPAWN has had the misfortune of having been picked up for a movie adaptation in a time when superhero movies were not yet fully accepted by the mainstream and by big studio executives as a material for a good serious movie. the 1997 adaptation of SPAWN was ridiculous, silly, dull, and bastardized McFarlane's creation.

A movie reboot of SPAWN has been talked about for many years, first as a sequel to the 1997 movie which starred Michael Jai White in the lead role, then later as a full reboot. Now it seems that Spawn could be the R-rated anti-hero to lead the comic book bad boy revolution, as McFarlane says that he’s set deadlines to turn in a script by the end of the year, and to begin filming in 2014. Upcoming Movies: The Purge

Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse Productions are gearing up for the upcoming release of a horror-thriller entitled THE PURGE. Directed by James DeMonaco, the film stars Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey (best known as Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones). This movie boasts a very intruiging, and very scary plot idea, that every year, the government sanctions an annual 12-hour period where everything—including murder—becomes legal. Of course this film is rated R by the US MPAA. The film is due for release on May 31, 2013 in the UK and June 7, 2013 in the US. No release skeds for the Philippines have been announced as of yet. Pinoy horror movie The Road will haunt the US (starting today)

THE ROAD was one of the best Pinoy mainstream horror movies to come out of 2011. Well, actually, its one of the best Pinoy mainstream movies to come out in a long time. So much so that it received flattering reviews from probably any critic who have seen it. It even caught the attention of the New York Times [click here to see that New York Times review].
[Click here to see OUR review of the movie]

THE ROAD caught the eye of a midsize American film distributor: Freestyle Releasing, which is based in Los Angeles. Today, (May 11 in the US) THE ROAD will be shown in more than 50 theaters across North America. It will be released simultaneously on DVD and via the iTunes Store, Amazon.com and Netflix.

GMA Films president Annette Gozon-Abrogar said at a news conference in Manila announcing the film's US release:
“As far as we know, this is the first Filipino film to be commercially distributed in the United States. This will be distributed like a Hollywood-produced movie.”

Apart from the U.S., THE ROAD will also be shown in selected theaters in Singapore beginning May 15. Talks between GMA Films and other film releasing companies are also underway for possible distribution of the film in other countries.

THE ROAD was directed by one of the very few really good directors working in the Pinoy mainstream movie industry, Yam Laranas. Laranas directed Radyo, Ikaw Lamang Hanggang Ngayon, and Sigaw, which had a Hollywood remake entitled THE ECHO.

‘Yanggaw’ director explores the Aswang origin with “Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang”

“Yanggaw” director Richard V. Somes’ new movie is entitled “CORAZON: ANG UNANG ASWANG”

Nobody can deny the success of the indie movie “YANGGAW” and how it grew into this phenomenon that has spread throughout the modern media culture of us Ilonggos and Negrenses. Its director Richard V. Somes is back with an appetite for flesh and blood, with a movie that tells his (own version of the) origin of where the Aswangs came from. It’s entitled: “CORAZON: ANG UNANG ASWANG” and it stars Erich Gonzales and Derek Ramsay.

Press releases reveal that the film is said to also be a period love story set in the time of the Japanese rule. The director, Richard Somes says that the idea of the concept was created in 2008 after he finished his first horror full-length script, Yanggaw. Early production of the movie began on May 2011, and the official release of the movie is set on March 14, 2012 in the Philippines. Unlike "Yanggaw", this movie is produced by Star Cinema, and it will have a general wide release nationwide.
