The Filmed Don Quixote at the FDCP Cinematheque

This week at the FDCP Cinematheque Iloilo, in honor of the famed author, Miguel de Cervantes who penned Don Quixote, Instituto Cervantes de Manila, the Embassy of Spain, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) have organized a special cycle of films inspired by Cervantes’s life and writings, entitled “The Filmed Don Quixote.” This includes the films: "Las Gallinas de Cervantes" by Alfredo Castellon,  "El Caballero Don Quijote" by Manuel Gutierrez Aragon, and "Don Quijote de la Mancha" by Rafael Gil. Las Gallinas de CervantesStory based on an original story by Ramon J. Sender. The action takes place in various locations of La Mancha. Both names and situations are the work of the author's imagination and lack of historical accuracy. What happened with the wife of Cervantes, Dona Catalina, was a little weird at first, later it becomes alarming and then fabulous and amazing. Cervantes find his friend Domenicos Theotocopulos, "El Greco", the confidant and cloth tears.

El Caballero Don QuijoteAfter learning that the Turkish down the coast with a dangerous navy, Don Alonso Quijano, the knight Don Quixote, will, once again, and opposed by his niece and housekeeper, a new battle begins in la Mancha and will end on the coast. Dressed in his armor Renaissance style, quite dated for the 1615 season, the "mad" knight of all scoff undertake his adventures with his faithful squire. The miedoso Sancho Panza, who incites and flatters the imaginary bouts gentleman, decides to go with him to support you, as always in their companies. Sancho also expects to receive the reward become governor of an island, an old promise that was made by Don Quixote. Don Quijote de la ManchaThe famous hidalgo Alonso Quijano is obsessed with novels of knights. Such is his addiction that he chooses to live in a world that only exists in his head and become a brave rider astride Rocinante. On his way, he will be accompanied by his faithful squire Sancho Panza and his burrito. This picturesque group leave their village in search of adventure. However, Sancho and his friends have to convince Don Quixote that the visions of giants are not real. This film based on the novel by Miguel Cervantes is the winner of the Prize of the National Syndicate of Spectacle, 1948: Best Film (3th place).

FDCP Cinematheque Iloilo is located at the B & C Square Bldg., Iznart-Solis Sts., Iloilo City. It is Iloilo's home of quality indie films and art films from the local and international cinema.
