The countdown has begun to the upcoming CineKasimanwa: Western Visayas Film Festival which will be held on the first week of December. Already on its third year, the CineKasimanwa is the festival that celebrates Ilonggo Cinema with a screening of various films made by Ilonggo filmmakers (and mostly shot in Iloilo, with an Ilonggo cast and crew). [hit the jump to continue]
In the previous two years of the festival, it was able to spotlight various local masterpieces from known filmmakers old and new; names such as TM Malones, Tara Illenberger, Joenar Pueblo, and Joebert Casas, among many others, have come up to carry the banner of Iloilo Cinema. The hard work from its chief spearhead of the festival, Elvert Banares, have been rewarded by success. Elvert has come up with an event that unites Iloilo's cinema community, its various groups, and has even able to spotlight on those hardly-seen and quiet masters who we thought would be ignored by the spotlight. He continues to do so and has made the festival a festival for us all, for Iloilo.
A couple of months ago, the organizers have already officially made the call for Ilonggo filmmakers to submit their works for this year's festival, and indeed many filmmakers and local independent groups have begun filming their movies for this year's festival. Before the last one (CineKasimanwa 2) ended, the organizers swore that the third one will be bigger and indeed there is much exciting anticipation for CineKasimanwa Tres.
This week, we can take a brief glimpse into some of the films that have been part of last year's CineKasimanwa. The Iloilo Short Films Showcase, which is a non-profit event, was organized not only to let audiences take a peek at some of the films that some audiences may have missed in the last year's festival, but also to serve as a mid-year refresher for the CineKasimanwa fever. The Iloilo Short Films Showcase will be held this week, July 14 to 19, 2015 5:30 PM at the FDCP Cinematheque, Iznart-Solis Streets, Iloilo City. This event is for free.
