Pitch Perfect 3 is in the works

As expected, with the success of "Pitch Perfect 2", Universal is planning to move on with a third Pitch Perfect movie. "Pitch Perfect 3" is scheduled for a 2017 release. [hit the jump to continue]

"Pitch Perfect 2" only had a budget of $29 million, yet it opened to a spectacular $69 million at the box office. Universal is obviously putting the immediate greenlight on the third; with Kay Cannon, who scripted the first two films, already negotiations to pen the new screenplay. Elizabeth Banks returns as producer, but it’s unclear if she will also direct after making her feature debut behind the camera on "Pitch Perfect 2".

Fans will also be happy to know that Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are indeed going to be back for part 3 also. Initial speculation thought that Hailee Steinfeld was brought on to part 2 in order to possibly take over the franchise in the future.

"Pitch Perfect 3" is scheduled for release on July 21, 2017. It may face tough competition in the US, as it will open one week after the new "Planet of the Apes" movie and one week before Sony and Marvel’s new standalone "Spider-Man" film. But let's wait and find out if its diehard aca-fanbase will be there to save it.
