The "Bad Boys" movies had always been Michael Bay's most definitive work. It's the kind of franchise that perfectly fits his overall style. But since part 2, Bay has seemingly had neglected the franchise. Despite the fact that we really want him to return to the thing that best fits him (and pray he'll finally gets his filthy hands off the Transformers franchise), those wishes may not be coming true anytime soon. Because now, it looks like Joe Carnahan will be writing and directing "Bad Boys 3". [hit the jump to continue]
For quite a while now, David Guggenheim was working on a script for the third movie. The draft is now apparently being looked over by Joe Carnahan, who is in possible talks to write and/or direct the possible film. Martin Lawrence was still interested in getting back to his role. But there's still no official word if Will Smith will be back or not.
Sources such as Deadline report that the studio is looking to have everything in place for "Bad Boys 3" soon enough that Smith might be able to slot it in after he's done with "Suicide Squad".
As for Carnahan, we can assume that he is more than capable enough to emulate Bay's Bad Boys universe, with a track record that includes "The Grey" and the remake of "The A-Team" we can easily assume that he is capable of pulling it off.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has long hoping to see a finished script, which has not yet happened. "Bad Boys" still has a strong following. But can it work without Michael Bay?
