Edsa Woolworth
This is the second film from the silver screen tandem of comedienne-actor Pokwang and director John-D Lazatin. It has equal parts drama and comedy that easily brings to fore universal values of love and compassion among family members. The ties that bind this family go beyond language, race, culture, food, and even blood. Bound by a stubborn affection and the utmost respect for each other, despite their quirks and idiosyncrasies – the Woolworth family stick together. They go through a rollercoaster of life-changing experiences that define their decisions and their choices. With personalities that collide, they fight and bicker along the way, and yet there is a tenderness felt for one another that sneaks in even in the most mundane instances.
Snap Impression:
I think this is looks like it's destined to be one of the year's best Pinoy movies. Pokwang is surely once again going to show us that she is more than just a physical comedian. Her dynamic partnership with director John-D Lazatin in 2011's beautiful drama "A Mother's Story" is once again rekindled in this new movie. If you love drama, especially family dramas, this looks like a sure-win bet.
Taken 3
Taken 3 is the third and final installment in the Taken trilogy which stars Liam Neeson as Bryan Mills, an ex-government operative who has been fighting kidnappers who targeted his daughter in the previous two films. Inasmuch as I think the trailer pretty much gives out a spoiler to the movie, let's just say that Mills (Neeson) is being framed for a crime he didnt commit, and now everybody seems to want to kill him. Its US release is on January 9, 2015, while it touches down here in the Philippines on January 14, 2014.
Snap Impression:
I loved the first "Taken" movie, but the second one pretty much tarnished the idea of this being a decent franchise. Now, the third one seems to have a silly plot that seems to be lazily derivative of other films. But I would not really hold it against this movie. I believe that it's just giving in to the concept and promise of being just a plain B-type hardcore action movie. Some of us just wished that it could have been something better.
Ang Babae sa Likod ng Mambabatok
This documentary film by Lauren Sevilla Faustino, is about a 92 year old woman named Fang-od (or Wang-od) who is considered to be the last of the traditional tattoo artists in the province of Kalinga. It will be shown at the FDCP Cinematheque from January 13 up till January 18, 2015, with screenings scheduled 3:30 and 5:30 PM on the weekdays, and 1:30 and 3:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

This documentary was already featured in several prominent film festivals. It has been proven to be a impressive piece of documentary which will most likely be appreciated by all lovers of art, especially those who are into body art.
Before I Go to Sleep
A woman wakes up every day, remembering nothing as a result of a traumatic accident in her past. One day, new terrifying truths emerge that force her to question everyone around her. This British-American mystery thriller is written and directed by Rowan Joffé and is an adaptation of S. J. Watson's 2011 novel of the same name, the film stars Nicole Kidman, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, and Anne-Marie Duff. "Before I Go to Sleep" opened in the US October 2014, September 2014 in the UK, and opens in Philippine cinemas this week.
Snap Impression:
Its director Rowan Joffé served as writer for such films as "28 Weeks Later" and 2010's "The American". The mysterious plot of the film is intriguing, and there's a possibility that you may love it if youre a big fan of mystery. The film boasts the tandem of Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth, and Mark Strong which is a powerful acting team, so youve got that, at the very least.
